Free Policy
Grand River Mustangs Girls Hockey recognizes that there is significant research
demonstrating the health hazards associated with tobacco products including smoking,
breathing second hand smoke and using chewing tobacco. Playing hockey is a healthy
lifestyle choice and as such we have an opportunity to further promote healthy lifestyle
choices to be a non-smoker. Therefore, GRMGH has developed a tobacco free policy in
the best interest of health and safety for its players, parents and the community.
The GRMGH will promote all games, tournaments, practices, training sessions and other
sanctioned activities to be tobacco free. Tobacco free means no smoking, snuffing,
dipping or chewing of tobacco by players, participants, coaches, bench staff, parents,
spectators and officials within changerooms, rinks, meeting rooms or other venues where
GRGMH activity takes place.
We will support the tobacco-free policy by:
1. Having the policy distributed to all members ofthe GRMGH via the website
distribution list.
2. Having coaches explain the policy to players, members and parents.
3. Making the policy visible on the website and including it as a tag line on all
electronic correspondence to parents and players.
We will enforce the policy by:
1. Encouraging all coaches players/members and parents to be respectfully reminded
of the tobacco free policy
2. Consistently applying consequences with players/members, parents or coaches
who repeatedly break the policy
3. Repeated violations may result in a verbal or written warning from the association
executive. Following written warning the individual violating the policy may be
brought to the association executive for disciplinary action which could include
lost of membership in the organization.
This policy has been approved by the GRMGH executive as of December 20, 2011 and will be reviewed each year.
