The Gorilla Is Off The Back!
Tuesday night marked the start of the LLFHL loop finals as the Novice B group traveled to New Hamburg and battled their old foe the Wilmot Wolverines. It was as it should be; the first place team vs the second with a birth to the "Frozen Four" of the LLFHL on the line. The teams did not disappoint and as expected it was a tough, tight, evenly contested match.
The Stangs jumped out of the gate quickly as Sydney Healey cracked a one-timer past the Wilmot keeper on a sweet pass from Lynsey Goodwin with Carson Lean getting the the other assist. The thrill lasted under a minute as a Wolverine forward whacked in a puck that Milne had pinned to the post after a "long whistled" scramble to make it 1-1. After that time and space disappeared for both sides as they limited scoring chances and fought for every inch of frozen playground. Finally it happened - with just over 2 minutes Carson Lean caught a timely case of "dangleitis" and twisted the Wilmot keeper around and slide the go ahead goal home. Assist on the winner went to Syd Healey and Lynsey Goodwin and for the final two minutes the entire team kept the puck away from danger and secured the much needed 2 ponts. An outstanding team effort ladies - well done and well deserved! Get some rest game 2 goes Thursday in Elora, dream big and believe YOU CAN DO IT!
