End of a Great Season!
Our last game of the season was against Atom 2 and although our girls played fantastic, they ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 game. Another stellar game in net by Leah, who made some great saves, especially a great kick pad save on a breakaway. Lone goal of the game was by Ella with an assist from Tessa. We had some good chances, but couldn't get more than one goal passed Catie.

It was the end of a very successful season for us. We cannot measure success strictly by wins and losses, rather by the continued improvement of each and every player on the team.

Chloe started her first year of hockey with a smile on her face and ended the same way. Along the way she listened, learned and scored her very first goal by putting into practice what she heard. Brooklyn also started her first year of hockey with a smile that never left. She did everything we asked, played forward and defence and turned out to be a solid addition on our blueline. Leah was our third new player and she showed from the very beginning that she wanted to play hockey...at any position. When she finally put on the goalie pads, she found her niche, as she improved at that position by leaps and bounds in a very short time.

Ella ended up being our leading scorer during the season but will be remembered most for her unselfish team play. She spent a good part of the year trying to set up Chloe for a goal and finally succeeded during the Oakville tournament. Brooke was our forechecker and digger in the opponents zone. She was tenacious and set up and scored on many plays because she didn't give up. Alexis was another who started the year with a smile that never left. She has speed, stickhandling and a great shot. Top shelf Alexis!

Gracey is the player with boundless energy. She skated her heart out on every shift and wasn't afraid to go into the corners to get the puck from the other team; no matter how big they were. Lindsay has great speed, nifty moves and, of course, a smile. She was our best backchecker and ended the season as a great two-way player. Megan was our mobile defence. She was rock solid on the blueline, but when she got wound up behind our own net, she usually ended up deep in the other team's end with a good scoring chance.

Tessa showed us time and game that she has excellent hockey sense. She knew when to stay back, and picked her times for a rush. She has great speed and puck handling ability and was another rock on the blueline (but we like her better as a forward). Amber was probably the most enthusiastic player on the team. She was encouraging to her team mates, never shied away from going after the puck and stopped opponents from getting scoring chances more times than can be counted. Karla did everything that was asked of her and more. She played net when we needed her to, played solid defence in between and was a great team player. She did all this, of course, with a smile.

The staff were great, so thanks to Lisa, Drew and Steve for help on and off the ice. Thanks to Angela for her physical and mental support of the team and thanks to Kathy for keeping it all together!

Way to go Mustangs!
