Orangeville Sweethearts Tourney Champs!!!
The Novice B Mustangs went to Orangeville on the weekend to play in their last regular tournament of the year. Not having much success in the first 2 tourneys of the year, the girls were hungry to come out and show everyone how much they have improved. All of the girls played hard and as a team they left Orangeville as Tournament Champions. The banner is now hanging in Pad B of the Fergus arena. Awesome teamowrk girls, lets keep it going through the playoffs!

This much improved team was ready to take a run at the gold.  The first game saw the Toronto Leaside Wildcats taking the other end of the ice against the Mustangs.  Our girls started off strong and ended up taking the battle 7-1.  Sydney Healey showed some nice moves and put away 5 goals, Carolina Rossi made no mistake on a breakaway and buried her first goal of the year, and Olivia Kosempel finished off the scoring and put one in the back of the net as well.  Assists went to Avery Diljee working hard for 3, Morgan Robinson with 3 helpers, Mirrem Litchfield with 1, Alli Pettifer with 1, MacKenzie Renaud with 1, Carolina Rossi with 1, Olivia Kosempel with 1, Ailsa Litchfield with 1, and Amanda Johnston also with 1.  Logan Jefferies was solid in net once again.

The girls then faced a very improved Oakville Hornets team.  With a small division the Mustangs needed this win to assure their chances of making the finals.  Oakville also felt the pressure of the must win game and never let up.  The scoring went back and forth all game, but our girls dug deep and won a very exciting game with the scoreboard showing a 6-4 tally in favour of the Mustangs.  The offence was a great one two punch.  Sydney Healey put away 3 goals, and Olivia Kosempel was on fire adding her first hat trick of the season.  Way to go Olivia!  Assists in this one went to Carolina Rossi 1, Brynn Hattle 1, Lauren MacDonald 1, and Sydney Healey 1.  Logan Jefferies faced one of her toughest games of the year and was up to the task in goal.

Now the girls faced a familiar foe in the Kitchener Lady Rangers.  These Mustangs have been rolling and had no intention of taking their foot off the gas.  Sydney Healey looked like a girl on a mission and had herself a 6 point game to lead the Mustangs offence.  Syd had 5 goals and 1 assists.  And with these goals Sydney surpassed the 50 Goal Mark in only 17 games played this season.  Congratulations Sydney!  Following in her big sisters footsteps Keira Healey banged in a goal of her own.  And Carolina Rossi showed a great finish adding one herself.  Assists in this game went to Lauren MacDonald 2, Revlyn McManus 2, Mirren Litchfield 1, Morgan Robinson 1, Alli Pettifer 1, Olivia Kosempel 1, Avery Diljee 1, MecKenzie Renaud 1, Keira Healey 1, and Sydney Healey 1.  Leading her team to an undefeated round robin was Logan Jefferies with the pads.

The championship game saw the Mustangs up against the Leaside Wildcats.  If there was any doubt the girls wanted this game it was erased early when Sydney Healey scored only 13 seconds into the game.  The Wildcats didn’t give up and came out much stronger than the first meeting and made it a back and forth game from start to finish.  But in the end the Mustangs would not be denied and they walked away with a 6-3 victory bringing the Championship banner home with them.  Sydney Healey finished up the game with 5 goals and Lauren MacDonald added 1 as well.  Assists went to Avery Diljee 1, Olivia Kosempel 1, and Amanda Johnston with 1.  Logan Jefferies was solid in net taking the win and going undefeated in the tourney.  Not bad at all for a girl who only started playing goal 2 months ago.  All the girls should be so proud of themselves.  Way to go Mustangs.
