Undefeated in Round Robin Play at Provincials!
The Grand River Mustangs Novice B girls hockey team went to Ottawa this past weekend to compete in the OWHA Provincial Championship tournament. They had a tough pool for round robin play with Ancaster, Belleville, and Barrie. Ancaster and Barrie both played in the LLFHL championships. The girls played very hard and managed to win all 3 games! Awesome job girls!

The first game in round robin play saw the girls take on the LLFHL champion Ancaster Avalanche. Ancaster had eliminated the Grand River team during the LLFHL play-offs and the Mustang girls were eager to prove they could beat them. Olivia Kosempel opened the scoring in the first period and then Sydney healey took over by scoring four more goals for the Mustangs leading them to a 5-3 win. Alli Pettifer helped out with one assist in the game. Logan Jeffries played a very strong game in net for the Mustangs as she faced quite a few breakaways from Ancaster’s strong offense.

Grand River then played a tough Belleville team in the second game of the round robin. Sydney Healey was on fire for this game as she was able to score 7 goals in the game and added one assist. The Mustangs won this game by an 8-3 score. Mirren Litchfield scored her first goal of the year for the Mustangs by knocking in a loose puck at the net. The strong defensive efforts of Brynn Hattle, Amanada Johnson, and Morgan Robinson kept the Belleville team to only a few goals.

The final game of the round robin saw the Mustangs taking on the team from Barrie. Both teams battled hard and the lead went back and forth until Keira Healey scored the game winning goal halfway through the third period. Keira played a great game as that was her second goal of the game. The Healey sisters did all the scoring for the Mustangs in the game as Sydney Healey scored 3 goals and had 2 assists. The final score was 5-4 for the Mustangs. The forward lines, including Lauren MacDonald, Avery Diljee, and Revlyn McManus,  forechecked aggressively and kept the puck in Barrie’s end for the majority of the game.
