Ending the Regular Season on a Positive Note
Today was our 10th and last game of the regular season and the girls decided to end it in style. Waterloo 2 travelled to Fergus to play us in our home rink and we did not disappoint.
We came out strong in the first period and took a 2 goal lead. The first was scored on a great shot by Natalie after assists from Sydney and Emma. Next up was Caron who scored her first of the season. It was a memorable goal as Caron was in the right place at the side of the net. She got off a strong shot that deflected off the goalie's stick, bounced of the goalie's helmet and into the net. Caron's goal was assisted by Sydney and Natalie.
For the second period we came out a little flat and the only goal was scored by Waterloo. However, Leah made a fantastic toe save on a breakaway to hold our lead. Early in the 3rd Waterloo scored again to tie the score. Our girls showed grit and did not give up. Sydney scored her first of the game mid-way through the 3rd to give us the lead again. Assist went to Karla. Waterloo again tied the score a couple of minutes later and once again we did not give up. As the seconds were ticking down Sydney spun around between the circles and shot to the clear side to give us the win with only 12 seconds to go. A great team effort that shows what can happen when you hustle after the puck.
