Exciting Start to the Playoffs
We travelled to Kitchener for our first game of the playoffs. It was a very exciting game and the girls showed tenacity to pull out a 4-3 win! We started strong and built up a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. First goal was scored by Caron on a great shot, with the assist going to Natalie. The second goal was an awesome end to end rush from Olivia, who slid a shot through the legs of the goalie to make it 2-0.
The second period we continued to play strong but could not score and the girls started to tire a little towards the end of the period (too much Christmas turkey?). Kitchener scored the only goal of the period to make it a close game. We started the third period still trying to get our game back and Kitchener tied the game early. Our girls finally found their legs again and took the lead midway through on a goal by Natalie, with the assist going to Olivia. We continued to play strong but with only 1:25 left on the clock Kitchener tied the score.
After the face-off, Natalie controlled the puck and skated through the Kitchener defense to score the game winner with only 1:15 left to go ... a mere 10 seconds after the Kitchener goal! Great game in net by Leah and a great team effort by everyone.
