Canadian Women, Men and the Mustangs!
What do they all have in common? THEY ALL WON GOLD! The Atom BB team competed in the 33rd annual Walter Gretzky tournament in Brantford this weekend and as their inspirational National teams did they went undefeated and claimed the gold medal.
On Friday they faced the Orangeville Tigers and got things going in style as the blanked the Tabbies 4-0. Goals were notched by Meg Gunn, Kate Mabey (2), and Lynsey Goodwin with helpers from Gunn, Ria Hamilton, and Carson Lean.
Saturday am it was the Barrie Sharks next on their dance card. A similar fate awaited the deep sea predators as the Stangs blanked Barrie 2-0. Goals in this one from Lynsey Goodwin, and Erin Pettifer with helpers from Lean, Leah LeCourtois (2) and Madison Bender. Logan Jeffries was solid with shut out number TWO on the weekend!
Sunday was set, the Mustangs already through to the finals, would need to play the home town Ice Cats twice. The morning tilt was a tight match as both teams bulged the twine twice for a 2-2 draw. Stangs got one from Goodwin and another from Gunn.
After a long break and lunch the Menchies bet was on! Win and your in! Scoring trends continued as Brantford squeaked one by in early in the first. That was it as Jeffries and her Lady D shut the door but the forwards opened their flood gates and exploded for three. Landyn Meadows started the onslaught in the second and Carolina Rossi and Lynsey Goodwin in the third. Helpers on the trio grabbed by Meadows and Kendra Harkins.
Great work ladies. A great weekend of family, friendship, fun and HOCKEY! The standard has been set - two to tie and another trip to Menchies! Lets get ready for Guelph on Tuesday.
