A Quarter Final Finish
It's all over for another season of Mustang hockey for the 2003/2004 generation. One, one and one was good enough to emerge from pool play in second place and play in a quarter final match. Game one was one of the best played in sometime as the Stangs battled and traded chances with the Russell Castor River Coyotes. The ladies an their keeper Jeffries skated to a 0-0 tie with the river dogs and earned a valuable single point.

Game two was a bit of a let down and lady luck was definitely not on the girls side. Leaside was able to bounce two in off sticks and skates and didn't allow a single tally. Final 2-0 Leaside.

Game three was a must win for the Mustangs as they squared off against the Stratford Aces - fortunately a familiar situation.  The offense started early as Carson Lean was finally rewarded when she converted a sweet rush - one of many chances she had generated over the first three games. Ria Hamilton got the play started out of her own end when she hit Lean with the outlet pass. Stratford answered quickly before the first frame ended but in the second the ladies struck again when Meg Gunn snapped one through the keepers feet. Assist to Lynsey Goodwin. The third period secured the victory as Carolina Rossi tipped home a Landyn Meadows centering pass making it 3-1. With the goalie pulled and two minutes left the Aces were able to deal one in but it was too little too late. Final 3-2 Mustangs.

That victory set up the quarterfinal match up with the Cornwall Typhoon who was coming in undefeated. It was an interesting end to the OWHA tournament and ultimately the season as on a very small Meadowvale ice surface the ladies were unable to beat the Cornwall keeper. They had their chances and worked their hardest but it was not in the cards. Cornwall netted one in the first and one in the second to make the final 2-0 Typhoon.

Overall the tournament was a positive experience. The ladies worked hard and competed with heart. They showed tremendous growth and improvement throughout the season and were rarely outclassed in any game they played all year. There were ups and downs, friendships made and strengthened, goals scored and allowed, some tears shed but most importantly fun had by all. Thanks for one of the best seasons to date. You are a great bunch of girls, with wonderful families behind you. Well done!
