Pack Your Bags Ladies, We Are Going to the Dance!
On the strength of a two game winning streak, the Atom girls of Grand River had a date in Kitchener against the Bobcats on Saturday. The game was one of two semi-final playoff games to determine the two teams that would play on Championship day for the Atom C Title.

The girls have been playing their best hockey of the year at the best possible time and today would be no different. Prior to the game, the girls were prepared and ready to punch their ticket to the finals. It didn't take long for the Bobcats to let us know this was going to be a fight, as less then a minute in they had a breakaway that "Van Halen" turned aside, which was a sign of things to come.

Feeding off of the saves in our end, the Mustangs cranked up some pressure of their own in the Kitchener end. That pressure paid off as Abby "AK" Knight gunned the first goal of the game behind the Bobcat goalie to put the road team up 1-0.

The Bobcats pressed for the equalizer, time & time again "Van Halen" kicked out pucks. As the girls rallied around their goalie, they put out their best effort of the year. Positionally strong, winning puck battles and giving all they had in this win or go home game. At the end of the day, when the smoke cleared, they held on for a thrilling 1-0 win.

As you all know, I hand out chocolate bars to game MVPs, after this game I had one bar that I asked Alicia "Waffles" Olywa to split into 17 pieces. As I told the girls in our post game talk, the bench staff could not have asked for more from the girls. They deserve all the success they have had as of late because they earned it through hard work.

But the season's not over yet. We still have one more game to go and I know the Atom Girls will be ready to put their best foot forward at the dance next Sunday.
