Not All Ties Are Equal...
The second week of the regular season saw our Atom B Mustangs pick up two very different 1-1 ties. After soundly defeating the Guelph Gryphons 5-0, to start the season, the girls travelled to U of G to play the Gryphons again on Thursday Oct. 9th. The girls did not get off on the right foot, giving up a quick goal in the first minute of play. The rest of the game was a bit of a struggle to find their stride and, despite tying the game on Emily's goal, the girls never did seem to really get going.

Saturday Oct. 11th saw the girls making another trip to "Ontario's West Coast", to play their second game in two weeks against a strong West Huron Wave team. After dropping a 4-1 decision to the Wave the previous weekend, our Mustangs came out flying and took the play to West Huron. After a scoreless first period, that saw good chances at both ends, Brynn got the girls on the board with a beauty wrist shot over the goalie's shoulder and into the top corner! The game went end to end for the remainder of the game, with Logan making some outstanding saves to thwart a number of dangerous chances. A couple of rung posts on great shots by Carolina and Cameron kept the Mustangs from building on their lead. The Wave finally tied it up on a bit of a disputed goal. The puck did end up in the net, but many fans were sure the whistle blew first. Nonetheless, the goal stood and the game continued. A sweet toe save by Logan, in the final minute, guaranteed West Huron wouldn't prevail and the game ended 1-1. Another 1-1 tie, but a much different feeling, as the Mustangs showed the type of effort and resolve that we saw at the Niagara Falls Tournament in September!
After the game the girls enjoyed pizza and treats, courtesy of the host team, celebrating International Women's Hockey Weekend.
A couple of practices this week, then the girls travel to St. Mary's next Sunday.
Keep working hard, Mustangs, and the positive results will continue!
