With a game #1 win in their pocket, the Mustangs hit the road to take on the Vaughn Flames. With the knowledge that Vaughn was happy to just be in the third round instead of playing to win, the girls were looking to wrap up it up and head into the Lower Lakes Finals.

As soon as the puck dropped it became clear that the same Vaughan game plan was in place. Trap, don't pursue and wait to see what happens. After a painful first period, a Vaughan player deviated from the "dump and hide" strategy to break in all alone and score putting the home team up 1-0. The home fans erupted in glee as the site of a Flames player in the opposition end was a glorious site. Even Mr. Magoo was aghast at such glory, who up to this point in the series spent his time berating Mustang parents for everything that was wrong in the world. I didn't know Fergus started the French Revolution, good to know.

With a lead for the first time in the series it was no surprise that the Flames went back to the exciting run & gun hockey they are known for. Not to be outdone, the Mustangs play their own style of hockey and the Stampede started rolling in the second. After a flurry of action by the left side of the Vaughan goal, the puck went up and over the Flames tender after she made several saves to knot the score up at 1-1. At least that's what happened except to one spectator who unfortunately was one of the officials. With no whistle blown or any indication of a stoppage of play before the goal, Bubbles the Ref pulled the puck out of the net and said it was covered by the goalie. With the goal wiped off the board it was 1-0 Flames after two.

With the start of the third the Mustangs continued to press for the equalizer. Keeping the puck in at the blue line, Fallon faked a shot that opened up the shooting lane, letting loose the cannon she buried the puck to tie the score 1-1. With time ticking down the Vaughan forwards, perhaps disobeying orders, pressed to get the equalizer on a breakaway with less than a minute to go but Loaf was there to throw out the right leg and secure the tie and a game #3 in Fergus the next day.
