A Night of Firsts
After an impressive team effort versus the undefeated Mt. Forest Rams in their previous game, the Mustangs were looking to continue their strong play as they hit the road to take on the Wolverines in Wilmot Tuesday evening.

Not sure if it was the late start time on a school night but the girls came out slow and the home team made them pay for it. Midway through the first the Wolverines tucked one in to take the first lead of the game, a 1-0 score that would stand after one period of play.

Instead of coming out strong to start the second, again the girls looked off and had trouble establishing any semblance of a consistent forcheck. With the forwards having troubles, Ferg Ferguson took matters into her own hands. With less then a minute to go in the second, Ferg battled to keep the puck in the Wolverine end, hard work which would result in the equalizer as Bear scored in her first game back from injury. With the score all evened up at 1-1, the Mustangs were fortunate to find themselves in a 12 minute game.

With the start of the third the Mustangs began to ramp it up, delivering the type of play they are capable of. Less than a minute in the Ghost Line Gang scored off the stick of Mrs. T to give the road team the first lead of the game. Although playing better, there was still plenty of time left on the clock and the Wolverines were hungry for the win. Sarah "I think my pads are on the wrong legs" Walker kicked out a few biscuits from in close to keep the lead. With five minutes to go and with a Wilmot player just about to spring on a breakaway, Erika took one for the team to keep the Wilmot player from breaking free. With Van B in the box, it was up to the rest of the team to kill off the penalty. The penalty kill came though and two minutes later the Stangs were at full strength. Wilmot pulled the goalie to make one last push but the Mustangs held strong to get the win.

The girls know how I feel about effort and tonight was one of those games where we stole one. Either way it resulted in our first road win of the year. It wasn't all bad as Ferg was her dependable self on the blue line (and beyond) to pick up the Star wear.

It was also Matt's first win on the bench, I'm not superstitious but if we lost he was going to be sent to the parking lot.

And finally it was the first time this year that we came out of the warmup with more pucks then we started with, three more to be exact.

Good teams find a way to win, tonight the girls did just that.
