Season Opener!
After a September of exhibition hockey, it was time for the Bantam BB Mustangs to open up the regular season with a road trip to Brantford to take on the Ice Cats.

The two week lay off for Grand River was evident as the girls came out sluggish and the home town Ice Cats kept them on their heels for the majority of the first period. When the first period was in the books, it was Brantford  sitting on a 1-0 lead. The second period was a different story as the Stangs found their legs and started to take over control of the game. With 2:36 left in the middle frame, Grand River scored their first of the year as Bailey tucked in a rebound in close courtesy of a Mo shot to tie the score up at 1-1.

The third frame started as the second left off with Grand River carrying the play. Five minutes into the third the Mustangs showed off their ability to move the puck up ice quickly. Erika picked up the puck in her own end breaking it out to My on the right side, who quickly sprung Burnzie on a partial breakaway,. Seconds later it was in the back of the net and the visitors took their first lead of the game 2-1.

Not willing to give up, Brantford pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and with 0.6 seconds left in the game, the Ice Cats would tie it up to steal a point from the Mustangs.

Tough lesson to learn about coming to play a full 32 minutes of hockey for the girls, but it will be one that serves us well for the remainder of the season in the ultra competitive Central West loop.
