The Midget BB Mustangs opened up the Corral Friday night with an exhibition game versus the Haldimand Rivercats. Haldimand is coming off a two loss regular season from the previous year and would be a strong test for the home town Mustangs.
The girls came out of the gate flying, with Jaime Glerum opening up the scoring with a breakaway goal 5 minutes into the first period. Haldimand answered back with a power play goal 2 minutes later and by the end of the first it was a 1-1 deadlock.
The second and third periods saw Grand River unable to stay out of the penalty box, giving the Rivercats multiple chances on the power play which they would use to their advantage. When the dust settled Haldimand would come away with the 3-1 win.
This was the first game that Grand River played as a complete unit this season. Although on the wrong side of the score, the girls showed well in their first game with lots of promise moving forward.
