Stangs Nail Down First Place
With eight play-down games already in the books, the midget Mustangs needed a single point in their remaining two games to lock down first place in the district. They would get their first chance at that point against Brampton Friday night.
Grand River came out strong from the opening whistle determined to set the tempo of the game. Three minutes in Roon would pick up a biscuit on the doorstep to make it 1-0 early. That would hold until the last minute of the first when Al buried one off the give & go to make it 2-0.
The second period was all Grand River, that pressure would result in a single goal from Roon as the Brampton tendy did her best to keep the Canadettes in the game.
With first place in sight the Stangs stepped up their play in both ends of the rink to ensure the win. Al would bury her second of the game to make it 4-0 in the third and that would be all that was needed. Grand River clinched first overall with their ninth straight win and will play their final game of OWHA play-downs Sunday evening against the Mt Forest Rams.
