What is Mustangs Local League?
The Mustangs Local League program is part of the Kitchener Girls Local League (KGLL) and offers competitive, skill-appropriate hockey in a fun, fair-play environment. Local League is ideal for players looking for structured competition without the time commitment of rep hockey.
All Mustang Local League teams participate in the Kitchener Girls Local League. Please note this is different from house league hockey and still requires travel. For more information about the season structure, please click here.
Time Commitment
Each team typically practices once a week and plays one game per week. Practices are generally held on a weeknight evening and will include shared ice with another team. Games are typically scheduled for Saturdays or Sundays but could occasionally be held during the week. Final schedules are provided in late September or early October once ice times are finalized. Home arenas for practices and games for the Grand River Mustangs may include Fergus, Elora, Arthur, Palmerston, Drayton, Grand Valley and other area arenas when required. The association strives to maintain a consistent weekly schedule whenever possible. However, due to ice availability and the need to support scheduling requirements of the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA), Kitchener Girls Local League (KGLL), and other ice user groups, there may occasionally be adjustments to scheduled nights. These changes can occur to accommodate events such as tournaments, playoffs, playdowns, and other ice allocations. The season begins at the end of September and runs through mid-to-late March, allowing players time to settle into their school routines before the hockey season gets underway.
Travel Expectations
Grand River Mustangs Local League teams compete against nearby centres, including:
- Cambridge
- Guelph
- Waterloo
- Kitchener
- Ayr
- Stratford
- Woolwich
- Wilmot
- Woodstock
Teams play approximately 8 games in the fall (Oct–Dec) and 8 in the winter (Jan–Mar), with half played at home and half away. Optional tournaments may be discussed and decided at the team level.
2026/2027 Registration
Due to limited ice availability, the Grand River Mustangs can only accommodate a limited number of local league registrations. Registration will open in June and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration fees for the 2026/2027 season will be posted in the registration link below once available.
Once capacity is reached, a waitlist will be created. Depending on ice availability and planning, waitlisted families will be notified in early fall if a spot becomes available.
Players who try out for rep and are not selected are not guaranteed a local league spot. Local league registration must still be completed to secure a position.
Please note that no priority is given to returning Mustang players. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
