Mustangs Rep Hockey Program Overview
Mustangs Rep teams compete in the Ontario Women’s Hockey League (OWHL) Southern Division, with some teams occasionally placed in alternative leagues such as the WOAA or WOGHL, depending on team skill level. The Rep program provides players with a highly competitive environment focused on skill development, teamwork, and a love of the game.
Games & Season Structure
Time Commitment
Playing Rep hockey requires a high level of commitment, which may include early morning practices, dryland training, and additional development opportunities.
Our Rep coaches dedicate a huge amount of time to their teams, and in return, we expect the same level of commitment from players and families. If you are considering Rep hockey, be sure to:
✅ Ask the coach about their plans early in the tryout process
✅ Be open and honest about your own availability and expectations
✅ Only accept a spot on a team if you can fully commit to the season

Schedules may vary due to holidays, tournaments, or arena availability.
Rep teams receive more ice time than Local League, including 12+ home ice sessions, away games, and team bonding events. The Rep season begins in September and can continue through April, depending on team success in playoffs and playdowns. Ice times may occasionally be shared and scheduled across multiple local facilities. Home arenas for the Grand River Mustangs may include Fergus, Elora, Arthur, Palmerston, Drayton, and Grand Valley.
Teams may also schedule additional ice sessions throughout the season for development which may include dedicated goalie training sessions, skills and power skating sessions for players. Additional development opportunities are planned at the team level and reflected in the team budget.
Playdown & Playoff Season (U11 and older)
February is often a popular time for family vacations; however, we ask that players avoid booking travel during this period to prevent conflicts with Playdown and Playoff season.
Playdowns determine eligibility for OWHA Provincials, while Playoffs lead to Championship Weekend. During these important games, call-ups are not permitted, making full team attendance essential.
Please plan accordingly to ensure players are available during this critical part of the season.
Tournaments
Tournaments are organized at the team level. Teams typically attend 3–5 tournaments per season, some of which may require overnight travel. Tournaments usually begin on Friday and run through the weekend. Most tournaments are booked by the end of July to allow families to plan ahead.
