The U15B Grand River Mustangs capture the Gold medal this past weekend in their home tournament. The 2025 Remembrance Day classic will be a weekend to remember for both the Mustang players and parents alike.
The Girls started the 7th Annual Grand River Mustangs Remembrance Day Tournament with a 0-0 tie in game one against the Kitchener Rangers. Jane Brunkard played brilliantly recording a shutout in the opener. Game two was a convincing 3-1 win over the Tillsonburgh Lightening. Game four was a battle to say the least. With over 30 minutes in penalties between the two teams the mustangs fell short 1-0 to the Windsor Wildcats. This set the stage for the rematch against the wildcats in the semi finals. The game did not disappoint. Both teams played a hard physical game but in the end the tenacity of the mustangs led to a 2-1 win securing their spot in the finals. The finals would see another rematch this time against the Rangers. The Mustangs came out flying scoring the first 3 goals and dominating the first two periods. Kitchener pushed back and scored two late goals in the 3rd to be within one. But with the Ranger goalie pulled the Mustangs were two strong for Kitchener to gain any offence zone time and the Mustangs captured their first tournament Championship of the year. The Mustangs played tired the Mustangs played hurt but most importantly the Mustangs played as a team. A team that from game one were determined to not get out worked. It was a very well deserved gold Medal.
