"It's a Trap" - Admiral Ackbar
Fresh off of a gold medal performance from the weekend, the Mustangs welcomed the Vaughn Flames to the Corral Tuesday night to kick off the third round of the Lower Lakes Playoffs.

The girls came out of the gate quickly firing nine shots on the Vaughn net in the first four minutes. Vaughn came to town with a short bench and it looked like it would be a long night for Flames tender. In an effort to slow down the Mustang stampede, the Flames employed a very disciplined trap system that they carried out to a T. It neutralized the Grand River forecheck and after the initial barrage of shots, the Mustangs managed only eight shots over the next period and a half. As such, the score was 0-0 heading into the third.

With the start of the third the Mustangs started to press again and finally broke though the wall of Flames. Ninety seconds in, Fallon let a low shot ride from the point that Frannie tipped in glove side to put the home team up by 1-0. Feeding off the goal, Jadyn picked up a loose puck by the side of the goal and tucked it home to make it 2-0. After the second goal, Vaughn regrouped and shut it down again. As time expired the Mustangs came away with a 2-0 win.

Although not the fast paced hockey that Mustangs fans have been accustomed to seeing, credit the Vaughn team for what they were able to do. On the road, with a short bench, they installed a system that dictated the pace for large portions of the game.

At the end of the day Billy summed it up best, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

Game #2 is set for Friday night at 8:00pm in Vaughn.
