It's been a busy few weeks for our Atom Mustangs, after getting bumped from the Lower Lakes Playoffs by the Wilmot Wolverines. The girls have been hard at work trying to be one of three teams to qualify out a pool of six in our Provincial Playdowns.

Our Atom Mustangs started out the playoffs on a snowy Sunday in Wilmot. After battling the Wolverines to a 0-0 tie the week before, the girls were familiar with this foe. From the first puck drop, the Mustangs came out with a purpose, taking the play to the Wolverines (who finished 3rd in the standings in the regular season) early on. In just the second shift of the game, a hard forecheck by Carolina's line led to a loose puck on Morgan's stick in the low slot. Morgan unleashed a hard wrist shot that eluded the Wilmot goalie and got the Mustangs on the board.

Saturday Dec 20th and Sunday Dec 21st saw a return to home ice for our Atom B Mustangs. Some home cooking, after last weekend's road trips should have been just what the team needed...but things don't always go the way you hope!

It didn't end the way we wanted, and the medal isn't gold, but...it sure was a great weekend of hockey! If someone had told us going into the Barrie Sharkfest Tournament that we would be playing on Sunday, we probably would have been happy with that...but in the end we accomplished so much more! The weekend started out on Friday with a bang, and a goal scoring outbreak against the Georgina Hawks. The girls scored early and often, in a 5-0 victory. How would the Atom B Mustangs respond following a two week layoff, following their tough 1-0 loos at Wilmot? Well that question was answered with a hard-working 1-1 tie on Saturday against a tight-checking St. Mary's Rock squad, then an even more complete effort in a 2-0 victory over the Kitchener Lady Rangers! In the St. Mary's game, Brynn bulged the twine, assisted by Alwynn, and Logan was called upon to make some excellent saves.
