Post Holiday Update
After a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year the Mustangs got back on the ice tonight to try to take the sting out of the Hornets of Oakville.
First A quick re-cAp of the MississAgA"A" tournAment. The Stangs attempted a first for an Atom rep group and potentially any rep squad by entering the "A" division in a Christmas break tourney. As expected the competition was tough as every team they faced was a quality A opponent - all with solid LLFHL loop records. The ladies in purple rose to the occasion and elevated their level of effort and competed quite well throughout the weekend. Some goals were scored and quality plays made by every name on the roster. A great warm up looking ahead to PLAY OFF HOCKEY!
In Oakville there was a slight sag in the quality of hockey overall. After a solid first few minutes the Mustangs fell into the easy trap of playing to the level of their opponent. In the first Carolina Rossi beat a screened keeper making 1-0 Grand River. Assists to Kate Mabey and the "many happy return" of Carson Lean! In the second frame Mabey sniped one top cheese from the point - helpers to Madison Bender and yet again Carson Lean. Not to be exterminated easily the wasps stung for their solo marker a short time later. That was all the ink needed as the visitors slugged out the remaining minutes, grabbing the W and the very valuable 2 points. A win is a win BUT we want more! We want the Stangs from the weekend, the ones that skate hard, compete like crazy, and never, ever, quit. Lets have that team make the trip down Hwy 24 to Brantford tomorrow.
