After picking up two points on Mustangs Day the girls of Grand River hit the road to take on the Wilmot Wolverines Tuesday night.

One of the areas of focus this year has been quick shifts and getting involved in the game early. In the first 50 seconds of the game every forward was on the ice. The downside was it was 1-0 for the home team as a fluke goal banged in off our own player and behind Texas Ranger.

Regardless of the score, the girls played their strongest game of the season. Fore checking with pressure, keeping the Wolverines back on their heels and generating shots. Defensively there was a commitment to the back check and our D pushed the home team to the side, away from the front of our net.

The stellar play was finally rewarded with less then three minutes to go in the second as Allie tied it up 1-1 with the helper coming from Willie. The lead was short lived as the home team came back with a minute to go in the period to pull ahead 2-1.

The Mustangs worked hard in the third for the equalizer but it wasn't to be as we dropped a 2-1 decision.

Star of the game was Emily "Roadkill" Pinzin. Emily has been playing the best hockey I have seen from her (I coached her three years ago as well), considering she has been doing this with a broken finger makes it even more remarkable. As far as the colorful nickname, Emily's jersey bag fell out her truck on the way home from our last road game. It was then promptly run over by yours truly and later picked up off the road by Hales and the Willie mobile.

The score doesn't always tell the tale as the girls played a fantastic game with each and every player giving a 100% effort for a full 32 minutes, setting the bar for a new standard of play moving forward. That effort was reflective of what this team can do and regardless of the score it was a definite win.
