Bring Out the Bear
After their strongest game of the year against Wilmot, the Mustangs had a date with the Kitchener Rangers at the Corral on Sunday afternoon.

Even though the season is still early, the Mustangs have been getting an identity as a really tough home team. That identity would be on full display for the Fergus faithful that came up to watch the matinee tilt.

The first meeting with Kitchener was a physical contest and the return affair would be the exact same rough & tumble play. If the Rangers figured they would be coming into the Corral and walk away with an easy win, they soon found out they were mistaken. Continuing to progressively raise their level of play each and every game, the girls came out ready to roll. Not shying away from the physical play, the home team established the Stampede early and rode it throughout. No player was more at home in the game then Bear Scarrow, who scored her first of the year by powering through the slot and shaking off defenders. Unfortunately the lead was short lived as the Rangers came back with a goal of their own to tie it up 1-1 heading into the second.

With the second period the physical play ramped up a notch, with neither team willing to back down the penalty parade began. Midway through the second the Rangers hit pay dirt for their first lead of the game, the 2-1 lead would carry over until the third.

Getting a power play early in the final period, Bear did it again scoring her second of the day to deadlock the game 2-2. Sparked by the equalizer, the Mustangs poured it on for the go ahead tally. Four minutes later and on the PP again, that go ahead goal came off Mi's stick giving the home team a 3-2 lead. With some tense moments with the clock ticking down, the Mustangs held off the Rangers and earned their third home win in a row.

Once again the girls continued to build on the hard work they put in during practices and showing it at game time. It was the toughest test this season and they passed with flying colours. It's statement wins like this that allow the girls to gain confidence in their abilities and feed off it moving forward. Great job ladies!

With the game in the books, it was time to bid farewell to Abby Brown who came up and played with us for five games in place of Deuce. Brownie was a large part of our success as we won 3 of the games she was in the lineup and fit in with the team seamlessly. Thanks Brownie, see you at the rink.
