Strong Home Play Continues at the Corral
Riding a three game home winning streak, the Mustangs had a date at the Corral with the first place Mt Forest Rams Wednesday night.

As it has been 10 days since their last game, the girls needed to get into the game early to shake off the rink rust and they did just that. Proving that the last game against the Rams wasn't a fluke, the Mustangs came out strong controlling the play and keeping the puck in the Mt Forest end for the majority of the first period. With 10 minutes of play in the books, the scoreboard collected dust as the score remained 0-0.

The strong play continued into the second as the game went back and forth. Two minutes in, the Rams scored the first goal of the game from the slot through a sea of bodies in front of Texas Ranger and taking a 1-0 lead. Unlike the Cambridge game, there was no let down for the Mustangs tonight. They battled hard, putting pucks on goal and driving the net. No scoring chance was better then the pass The Mighty Lauren fed Bella Smith in front. Bella ripped a shot from in tight but the Rams goalie was there to turn it aside.

The girls kept up their impressive play into the third desperately trying to get the equalizer. With all three lines rolling with quick shifts, the chances came but the bounces didn't. With 24 seconds to go and an extra attacker on the ice, the Hammer took a penalty on a questionable call from the Home Town ref (huh?). The Mustangs still had one last drive towards the Mt. Forest goal but as the clock ticked down so did the hopes of a comeback. This was only the second home loss of the season but may have been their best effort against the league's top team. For her strong work on the blue line, Jennie took home the Purple Style as star of the game.

As I told the girls, no one should hang their head after the effort they gave. Each one took the principles we worked on in practice and applied it just as the coaches asked. Which will lead into a fun practice for the girls Friday night, they earned it.
