Mustangs Day
The 3rd Annual Mustangs Day brought the Brantford Ice Cats to town for the second game of the regular season.
It was the road team Ice Cats that brought the play to Grand River in the first. That pressure paid off as Brantford scored with less then a minute to go to take a 1-0 lead into the second. Carrying their strong play into the second, the visitors scored early to bump their lead to 2-0. Grand River started to show signs of life by the end of the second as they swarmed the Brantford net, setting the stage for an exciting third.
Midway through the third the home town Stangs finally found their stride with the new found line of Jaime, Roon and Kai. One shift and 8 seconds later (yes 8 seconds) the game was tied 2-2. Jaime got the first goal from a beautiful feed from Roon on the 2 on 1. Kai got the second goal after winning the draw at centre and skating through the entire Brantford team, burying it past the Ice Cat tendy.
With a 5 on 3 power play for Grand River, it was looking good for the comeback. The hockey gods had better plans as the Mustangs gave up a breakaway and a short handed goal to give Brantford a 3-2 lead with a minute to go. Despite a last ditch effort to get the equalizer, it was not to be and the Stangs dropped their first game of the season.
