Welcome Home
The girls had a rare home game Wednesday night as they welcomed the Kitchener Lady Rangers to the Corral. This was only the second regular season home game in the last six weeks for the Stangs and it was nice to be back. The Mustangs haven't seen Kitchener since exhibition days back in September, that was two months ago and lots can change.
One change in Grand River since the start of the year is their forecheck, which they applied consistently right out of the gate. The home town Stangs pressured the Lady Rangers for the majority of the first and that led to several offensive chances. Roon took advantage and buried two goals in 45 seconds to give the girls a 2-0 lead. Kitchener is #4 in the province for a reason and didn't sit back getting their first goal before the period ended to cut the lead to 2-1.
The second period was more forecheck by the Mustangs, despite the offensive zone presence & chances the 2-1 score would carry over until the third. The third was an even affair until Kitchener completed the comeback with four minutes to go knotting up the score at 2-2.
It was also a welcome back to Hal who has been on the DL for the past week. Fitting right in she double shifted the entire game and looked great being reunited with the "Bigs".
