Bantam BB Make it to the Elite Eight at Provincials!
With the end of a fantastic season in sight, the Bantam BB Mustangs had one more tournament this past weekend in North York. With 24 teams from across Ontario competing for the gold, the girls of Grand River would have their work cut out for them.

Playing out of pool D, the Mustangs would find themselves in the toughest pool of the Tourney.

The first game was against the #7 ranked Napanee Crunch, a Bantam A team that dropped down to play BB in the tournament. The game was a physical affair that would find the Stangs stealing a point in securing a 1-1 tie.

The second game would bring on the #3 ranked Stoney Creek Sabres. The game was a more skilled affair then the morning match up, but the Mustangs would find themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 score and have their backs against the wall for the rest of the tournament.

The third game was against the #16 team in the province & LLFHL Bronze medalist Brampton Canadettes. The Mustangs defeated the Canadettes earlier in playdown action and they would do it again by a score of a 3-1. The win pushed the Stangs into the afternoon playoff game.

The fourth game saw the #18 West Northumberland Wild tangle with the Stangs. Grand River was too much for the Wild and flew into the 1/4 finals of the tournament after securing a 4-1 win.

The fifth game would see a rematch against the Stoney Creek Sabres. Just like the first meeting, the second was a great display of skill and speed, but after playing the third game of the day the Mustangs ran out of gas and dropped a 3-1 decision. With heads high, Grand River congratulated the Sabres and it would be Stoney Creek that would be crowned Provincial Champions the next day.

The girls played their best hockey of the season in the last three months going 16-5-4. They developed into one of the best teams in the province and went on a run for the record books. This was the farthest any Mustang team has made it in the Provincial Tourney at this age level. Be proud of the season you had ladies, you worked extremely hard for it. Well done.
