Mustangs are the Sweethearts of Orangeville!
The Novice B group strikes gold in the annual Sweetheart tournament in Orangeville this weekend. The Stangs opened day one action showing they were back in form by delivering a convincing win over the Waterloo Ravens 6-0. Lynsey Goodwin opened the scoring in the first, Landyn Meadows completed a hat trick and Sydney Healey notched a pair as Carson Lean was all over the score sheet adding four assist!

Game two pitted the Mustangs against the Sault Ste Marie Wildcats and proved to be a tighter affair. Syd Healey lead the team with two markers with a assist to Brynn Hattle and Kate Mabey completed the tally with a solo rush bulging the twine late in the second. The Mustangs were able to declaw the Cats 3-1 and head home through the snow 2 and 0.

Day two featured the Mustangs up against a familiar foe in the Stratford Aces, who had delivered only the second regular season loss to the team just recently. With the defeat fresh in their minds the Novice B girls came out focused and determined capturing a birth in the finals by sending home the Aces with a 2-0 loss. Kendra "Johnny on the Spot" Harkins played hero in this one potting both goals with assist going to Meadows, Erin Pettifer and a strong compete level from Jillian McIntyre.

Championship Sunday started with some unfortunate news that defender Kate Mabey was out due to "Flu like symptoms". It was up to Madison Bender, Leah LeCourtois and Ria Hamilton to hold down the back end and pick up their very disappointed fallen teammate. The opponent was the Sarnia Lady Sting and buzz around they did but the Mustangs barred down and defeated the Bees 1-0 when Syd Healey beat the Sting goalie short side midway through the second period. The defence help tough, the forwards back checked hard and Alexa Milne slammed the door on a great scoring chance late in the third to secure the victory and earn her third shut out of the tournament. It was a solid weekend for the entire team with all girls contributing and playing very solid positional hockey. Sydney Healey was named tournament MVP with 5 goals and determined two way efforts. This is a great way to enter the LLFHL play offs and OWHA play downs for the Novice B squad. Awesome work ladies, see you at the rink Thursday
