Mustangs Advance to the OWHA Provincial Championships!
It took until the result of the game Monday between Guelph and North Halton, but it is official - the Novice B squad has qualified for the 18 team OWHA Provincial Championships! With the tie Saturday against Guelph (1-1) and Guelph's loss Monday (0-5) the Mustangs finish second in the L17 region and can cross yet another "to do" off their wish list this season and will be playing meaningful hockey in April. It is a nice accomplishment for this young squad and another step in the right direction toward their development as individuals and as a team.
Saturdays game was not the best effort the Stangs put forth but certainly enough to seal the deal. Period 1 went scoreless but mid way through period 2 the Thunder banged in a loose puck and took the lead 0-1. The Mustangs finally got their mojo going late in the period and despite several chances could not capitalize. It was in the final 15 minutes that persistence paid off as Erin Pettifer netted the tieing goal on a rebound from Kendra Harkins and gave the Novice B team a very valuable tie and single point. Play off hockey, we are learning, is often a tightly contested affair but you never gave up girls and that is the most important victory of all. Welcome to the tournament, lets work hard, do our best and have fun! Good luck in your LLFHL final series which begins Mar 20th.
