Bronze Medal in Mississauga!
The Novice B Mustang girls went to Mississauga last weekend looking to add a medal to their Christmas wish list. They played a solid 5 games over 3 days and accomplished their Christmas goal by winning the bronze medal! All the girls want to say a big thanks to Sam for booking a hotel with a 3 story indoor waterslide!

Great work in Mississauga girls, let's keep it rolling for the 2nd half of the year.

The Mustangs opened the tournament with a very strong effort against the Brampton Canadettes. The girls demonstrated their scoring ability and ended up with an 8-0 win. Allison Pettifer opened the scoring in the first period on an assist from Mackenzie Renaud and Ella Zwep. A few minutes later in the period, Mackenzie scored the second goal on an assist from Morgan Robinson. Alli then finished up the first period with a highlight reel goal where she roofed the puck past a surprised Brampton goalie. Nice shot Alli! Avery Diljee then decided it was time for her to take over the game. Avery chased the puck hard and demostrated some awesome dekes and moves which sent her on a goal scoring streak. She scored the next three goals for the Mustangs to give them a commanding 6-0 lead in the third period. It was Avery's first hat trick of her young hockey career! Awesome work Avery!!! Mirren Litchfield then managed to score the next goal of the game oin an assist from Alli. The final Mustang goal of the game went to Amanda Johnston on a beautiful breakaway attempt from her own end. Great skating Amanda! The lone assist on the goal went to her D partner Victoria Smith. Bree McLeod nothched another shut out for the season with a strong effort.

In the 2nd game of the tournament, the Mustangs fell to the Oakville Hornets by a score of 3-1. The Hornets came out strong for the first half of the game and went up 2-0 early before the Mustangs could respond. Mackenzie did respond with a nice break away goal at the start of the third period. The Mustangs battled hard for the rest of the period but it was not enough to offset the strong start by Oakville. Campbell Lean played a  very strong game in only her 2nd game back from a wrist injury.

In the 3rd game of the tournament, the Mustangs faced off against the Stratford Aces. The Aces played hard and it was a close scoreless game until the 8 minute mark of the second period when Alwynn Mackie scored her first goal of the tournament to open the scoring. Assists on the goal went to Alli and Avery. Mackenzie then scored the next goal to start off the 3rd period. Morgan scored a nice goal from the front of the net on a pass from Alli in the corner. The other assist on the goal went to Avery. Great job of being in front of the net and getting the shot off Morgan! The triple A line finsihed off the scoring in the game - Avery scored on assists from Alli and Alwynn. The final score of the game was 4-0 for the Mustangs.

On Sunday morning, the Mustangs took on the Stoney Creek Sabres for the chance to play in the gold medal game. The Sabres took advantage of a slow start by the Mustangs and scored the first 2 goals of the game to finish the 1rst period with a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs then battled back hard and scored the only 2 goals of the second period to tie the score at 2. Mackenzie scored the first goal on an assist from Revlyn McManus. The second goal for the Mustangs was socred by Avery and the assists went to Alli and Mirren. Stoney Creek scored the next 2 goals to take a 4-2 lead. Morgan scored the next goal at the 5 minute mark of the third period (on an assist from Mackenzie) to make it a close 4-3 score. The final goal of the game went to Stoney Creek and they qualified for the gold medal game with a 5-3 win. Bree played a great game and stopped quite a few strong scoring chances from the Sabres - great work Bree!

In the final game of the weekend, the Mustangs were playing Stratford once again but this time it was for the bronze medal. Amanda Johnston showed everyone they were there to win with a strong breakaway effort to get the first goal of the game. Mackenzie followed this up with her own break away effort and goal to make it 2-0 after the first period. Revlyn then decided to own the second period and managed to score 2 goals to make it 4-0 - great hustle and determination Revlyn! Alwynn finished off the broinze medal winning effort with a goal in the 3rd period on an assist from Mirren. Stratford was kept off the score sheet based on a very strong effort by the defensive team of Victoria, Amanda, Ella, and Campbell.

Awesome work in Missisauga girls! We have a couple of tough games coming up against Oakville this weekend, we can win both of these games if we play hard from the first whistle to the last whistle of the game!
