Valentine's Day Hockey
Submitted By Steve Fogarty on Wednesday, February 18, 2015
With chocolates and flowers everywhere, the Atom girls headed to Kitchener to take on the Bobcats.

Not sure if it was the chocolates, but the girls came out on fire at the drop of the puck. Pinning the Bobcats in their end and controlling the play. Despite outshooting the home team the score remained tied after one.

With the start of the second the Mustangs forecheck paid off. Driving the puck towards the net, Sarah wouldn't be denied as she battled in front scoring the first goal of the game and giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately the chocolate seemed to wear off in the third as the Bobcats scored the equalizer with 7:30 to play making the score 1-1. The remainder of the period was a push as neither keeper allowed another goal as both teams walked away with a hard fought point.

Players of the game for Grand River were the defensive pairing of T-Dawg and Groucho (sounds like a TV show) who played both ends of the rink as good as it gets. Keeping pucks in the offensive zone and breaking up scoring chances in the defensive end.

The Atom ladies have three more games on the schedule before this round of playoffs is over. Currently we are tied for second with two other teams at 7 points, top four teams move on to the semi's.

Lets Go Mustangs!
