Silver Medals In Stouffville!!!
The Novice B girls travelled to Markham/Stouffville to compete in the 2014 Starsfest tournament. It was a great start to the season as they were able to win the silver medal! The girls worked hard in every game and managed to go undefeated in thier 4 round robin games. They faced a strong Whitby team in the final and came up a little short of the gold medal. A silver start to the season is awesome ladies, keep up the excellent work, the regular season starts next week!

In the first game of the tournament, the Mustangs faced off against the hometown favourite Markham-Stouffville Stars team. It was a close game but the Mustangs were able to pull off the 2-1 win on goals from Morgan Robinson and Mackenzie Renaud. Victoria Smith and CJ Pardy had the assists.

The second game had the Mustangs taking on the Brampton Canadettes on Saturday morning. It was a true team effort by the girls as they won the game 7-0 with 6 different girls scoring goals. Goal scorers for the game included Alli Pettifer, Alwynn Mackie, Morgan, Mirren Litchfield, Amanda Johnston, and Mackenzie with 2 goals in the game. Assists went to Morgan (3), Amanda, Ella Zwep, Avery Diljee (3), Alli, Mirren, Campbell Lean, Alwynn, and CJ. Bree McLeod made some truely amazing saves during the game and earned her first shut out of the year!

On Saturday night, the girls played the Whitby Wolves to a 1-0 win. It was a nail biter of a game but the girls hard skating paid off for the win. Mackenzie scored the only goal of the game in the first period with assists going to Avery and CJ. Campbell, Victoria, Amanda, and Mackenzie all played terrific defence to keep the number of scroing opportunities against the Mustangs to a minimum. Revlyn McManus, Ella, Alli, and Alwynn all aggressively forechecked the Wolves to keep the puck in thier end most of the game. Bree McLeod continued to play solid in net to earn her second shut out.

On Championship Day, Sunday, the Mustangs blanked the Waterloo Ravens by a score of 2-0. The goal scorers were Alli and Alwynn. Bree earned her third straight shut out. In the medal game, the Mustangs faced off against a determined Whitby team that wanted to avenge for their loss the night before.  Whitby managed to win the game by a score of 6-3. All of the girls palyed hard but it was just not quite enough to pull off the win. Mirren, Mackenzie, and Alli were able to score the goals and assists were recorded by Mackenzie, Alli, and Victoria.

Bree was named player of the tournament for her strong play in net - in her first tournament as goalie!!!
