First Win Of The Regular Season!!!
The Mustang Novice B girls faced a tough test on Sunday afternoon when they faced off against the Stoney Creek Sabres. Stoney Creek was undefeated and had beaten the Mustangs 6-2 in their first match up. This did not phase the Mustang players as they came out very strong in the first period and managed to maintain this momentum throughout the game in order to win the game 2-1.
It was a very close and hard fought game by both teams. It was great to see the girls get their first regular season win of the year. Lets keep up the awesome effort girls and get another win next weekend against North Halton!!
The girls from Centre Wellington showed that they were not intimidated by Stoney Creek early on through their hard skating and attacking style of play from the first face off. The Mustang forwards aggressively forechecked in the Stoney Creek end and the defence kept the Sabre forwards in check for the majority of the game. It really was a great effort by EVERY girl on the team!
Mackenzie Renaud opened up the scoring with only 1 minute remaining the first period. Mackenzie skated in hard on a breakaway and fired a blistering shot bottom left corner that beat the Sabre's goalie. At 3:27 of the second period, Revlyn McManus went to the front of the net and put home a rebound to score the second goal of the game. The lone assist on the goal went to Mackenzie. Great work Revlyn at getting to the front of the net and being in position for the rebound! Stoney Creek increased the offensive pressure after that in an attempt to tie the game. They managed to score to make the game closer at 2-1. However, every Mustang player played their hardest in order to keep the Sabre scoring chances to a minimum and preserve the 2-1 win.
