Mustangs Notch Win Number Two
The Mustangs travelled to Wilmot this past Saturday for their second road game in a row to take on the Wolverines.
The drive caused the girls to come out slow and as a result the Wolverines opened up the scoring 30 seconds in. This was a wake up call as the Mustangs started pressing the attack and unleashed our secret weapon AK - Abby Knight. Playing her second game at forward, Abby scored her first goal ever to tie the score at 1-1. Unfortunately Wilmot added one more before the end of the period to take a 2-1 lead into the second.
The second period had plenty of scoring opportunities for both sides. Not to be happy with scoring once, AK hit the twine once more to tie the score at 2-2 heading into the third.
One area we have been working on a lot in practice and talking about in pregame is not giving up on a play. Two minutes into the third it all paid off. Abby B picked up a puck at center and went in on a break away and let rip a hard shot on goal, falling into the boards. Abby didn't give up, got back on her feet and managed to tuck in the loose puck and giving us a 3-2 lead.
With 24 seconds to go in the game, Wilmot came in a breakaway with a chance to tie up the game. As she has done all year, Halen saved are bacon and stoned the Wilmot forward and preserved the win at 3-2.
We have five tough games left before we get re-seeded for the 10 game schedule after Xmas. We just have to keep working hard and applying are practice points.
