Great Effort at Home
The undefeated Waterloo Ravens #4 squad game to town on Saturday to take on the girls in a Saturday afternoon contest.
Sometimes the score doesn't always tell the tale of the game. The Ravens scored early to take a 1-0 lead that would eventually be the final score. Regardless, the coaching staff and all the parents I talked to agreed that this was the best all around effort we had all season.
Girls played their position, battled for loose pucks and kept their heads up looking for open teammates to pass to. Defensively we ran with four D and they gave it everything they had, keeping pucks in the other teams end, breaking up plays and never giving up on the play.
Although not reflected on the score sheet, there were two girls that played the best games I have seen since they started with Mustangs. I have watched Paige play for three years and the effort she turned in today was great to see as she is becoming a very reliable and trusted defensemen.
The other girl that stepped up today was Thea. Although this is her first season of hockey, she comes to the rink every day ready to learn and work. This attitude is paying off as she is taking the practice instruction and applying it the game. Playing the wing positionally strong and looking for girls to pass to when she gets the puck.
As we head into our first tournament of the year, the girls are going in the right direction. We still have some tough games on the schedule but we are getting better and having fun.
